Summary
Speaking on the occasion of his first visit to the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, sculptor George Segal talks about his intense love affair with art and his impressions of the best-known artists of his day. He goes on to discuss his decision to accept all materials in the real world as legitimate subject matter, his interest in figurative sculpture, and his willingness to break artistic "rules" as a reaction against his Abstract Expressionist teachers. During the lengthy question and answer portion of the lecture he comments on the concept of Pop Art, the evolution of casting from the figure, integrity in using found objects in art, his reasons for abandoning painting as a medium, and, more briefly, on a variety of other topics
