Summary
In his second lecture (previous lecture 1961) at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, painter Elmer Bischoff presents slides of his work as well as the work of painters who influenced him, from Old Masters to modern artists. The lecture emphasizes his training as an artist, both in school and beyond, and covers his progression from non-representational to figurative painting and back again. Considerable attention is also given to the various elements of a painting and how they are integrated into a whole composition. Along with David Park and Richard Diebenkorn, Bischoff was one of the key figures in a reaction against Abstract Expressionism known as Bay Area Figurative
