- Summary
- Paul Mellon Lecturer, Bill Berkson, reads from the poetry of Kenneth Koch, Dante, and Wordsworth, as well as his own, and talks about the relationship between the world of art and that of poetry, in practice, impact, and their place in a larger arts context. Berkson discusses the influence of Kenneth Koch as an educator as compared to that of Hans Hofmann, Freud and the concept of happiness, the experience of light as it relates to life, and the passing of an era when artists from all disciplines were more socially connected with one another. During the Q&A session, Berkson fields diverse questions such as what painter he would choose to be if he could, a description of his daily practice of poetry, art criticism, globalization and the arts, and the value of MFA programs
