- Summary
- "The Fifth Issue of Conspiracy of Cartographers is a double issue in the literal sense. The entire issue is made up of not one, but TWO zines. One is black and white, while the other is full color, and together contain over 90 photos taken on various emulsions with various cameras - from 35mm to 4x5. The zines are each divided into three sections: March, April and May. Each section highlights a different area of eastern Washington that I explored this past spring. For March, I poked around several locations in the Grand Coulee area - Dry Falls being the main objective. April saw me on a seventeen mile weekend hike in the newly-opened (and utterly deserted) Big Bend Wildlife Area in Douglas County. And in May, I overnighted in Ancient Lakes, where I dragged along not just a 4x5, but a Mamiya RB67 for an eleven mile slog. Each of the zines are extensively notated. First, I share which camera and film I used for each photo. Additionally, in the color zine, I wrote about my experience hiking and photographing these environments. For the black & white, I dug into the geological history of the area - from the lava that covered the bedrock 16 million years ago, to the Ice Age floods that carved the canyons 18,000 years ago. I wanted Issue Five to be something special, something larger than normal. This is why I piled on the bonus content." -- Artist's Etsy site (Accessed 24 February 2022)
